SwampDogs Win 4th Straight To Sweep Homestand

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville SwampDogs won their fourth consecutive game on Sunday night when they defeated the Edenton Steamers 6-to-5 at “The Swamp.” Mike Tauchman (Bradley) ripped his first home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, driving in Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) to take a 6-to-4 lead. Fayetteville took the early lead in the third when Ciamacco drove in Brian Bullard (Albany) with a single after Bullard was walked to lead off the inning. Ciamacco extended the lead in the fifth when he doubled home Zach Gawrych (Tampa), who scored two runs on the night, bringing his league-leading total to 22 on the year. Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital Once Again Heals Sick and Injured For Return to Atlantic Ocean

Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital Once Again Heals Sick and Injured For Return to Atlantic Ocean

We did it again! Rescue, rehabilitate, release; it’s what we do! And if you’re a sea turtle, the very best part of what we do is release. That’s what happened to fourteen fully rehabilitated patients on June 6th. After spending from several years to just a few short months under our care, six large Loggerheads, two small Greens and six Kemp’s of varying sizes were given a hearty breakfast, a farewell ceremony and then loaded into their chariots for a short trip to the beach. A crowd of volunteers, interns, externs and invited guests gathered at the hospital, ignoring the constant drizzle as they listened to Jean review the events leading up to the day. She spoke about the dedication […]

Day Three, Saturday Wavesailing Action!

Day Three, Saturday Wavesailing Action!

Day Three of the NNE spree took us to the south side as far as the south end of Ocracoke Island!  The swell was considerably smaller than Friday’s south side wrap, but there remained some fun set waves and perfect side-off wind direction on the south side of Ocracoke.  Ralph and I caught it down there while the tide was coming in with some fun wave rides and jumps/loops in solid sub-5.0m wind!  Though interestingly, the wave zone was quite disconnected on the south side compared to the north, even though winds remained side-off.  Perhaps there is a point a little further north on Ocracoke island where a “magic spot” exists where the island turn occurs to foster true side-off […]

Whitley (2-0) finished the night with eight strikeouts in six innings, walking three and allowing only three hits. Wes Hatley, Ryne Frankoff and Nick Bruns combined to close out the game. Each of the first two Sharks runs came on defensive errors, with Lloyd Enzor advancing home from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the second and Aaron Preston coming across on a throwing error by the catcher, who was trying to catch Preston stealing third. In the top of the seventh, […]

Giardina’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Dogs To 3rd Straight Win

Fayetteville, NC – Sal Giardina (Lynn) drove a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right field for a walk-off home run on Saturday night, as the Fayetteville SwampDogs defeated the Wilson Tobs 5-to-4 for their third straight win at “The Swamp.” In yet another instant classic at home, the Dogs walked off with a victory for the second consecutive night, after a 10th-inning win on Friday night. In a back-and-forth game that saw three lead changes, Wilson took the early 1-to-0 lead in the second inning, while Fayetteville remained scoreless until the fifth frame. Connor Obrochta (Tampa) reached base safely on an error to lead off the frame, and scored on a Zach Gawrych (Tampa) RBI single after advancing to […]

Beautiful Side Off at Billy Mitchell (Ramp 49)!

Beautiful Side Off at Billy Mitchell (Ramp 49)! Yesterday, the NE continued providing the famed “NE Wrap” of swell around Cape Point to allow surf to fill in on the south facing beaches of the OBX.  Billy Mitchell Airfield (Ramp 49) has some excellent outside sandbars right now, and the setup yesterday provides for some literally beautiful wavesailing conditions.  Perfect water, waves, wind all added up to a stellar session for those who caught it…, bummed, I missed it! Good news is that there will be a repeat today, and I will be down there!!  FUN times here on the OBX right now, and you should be here!!
