Progress Energy warns customers against utility bill payment scam

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 29, 2012) – Progress Energy is urging customers be on alert for a new utility bill payment scam affecting customers across the country. Scammers claim that President Obama will pay customers’ utility bills through a new federal program. Progress Energy has received reports of customers who have been contacted about this scam in its Carolinas and Florida service territories. According to the Better Business Bureau, customers have been contacted in person and through fliers, social media and text messages with claims that President Obama is providing credits or applying payments to utility bills. Romeo & Juliet Concert to begin at 8:30 p.m. Cary, NC – The most up-to-date weather information for Saturday, June 30 indicates a strong possibility of excessive heat on the Booth Amphitheatre stage at the regular Summerfest start time of 7:30 p.m. Therefore, in order to best balance the safety and comfort of the audience, as well as the musicians and their instruments officials have decided to delay the start of the North Carolina Symphony’s Romeo and Juliet concert until 8:30 p.m. Gates at the Amphitheatre will be open at 6:00 p.m. and concertgoers are welcome to enter the park and set up lawn chairs and blankets as usual.   Patrons are encouraged to pack plenty of water. RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Museum of History Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of William “Billy” Wilson as Executive Director, effective July 1. Wilson’s duties will include leading efforts to expand membership in the Associates across the state, implementing events to diversify and increase the organization’s funding base, and overseeing the successful retail shop at the North Carolina Museum of History. Lyn Maness has ably served as Interim Executive Director during this transition. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Wilson served as an independent contractor with the Associates before becoming the group’s Associate Director in 2008. WILMINGTON, North Carolina – With the National Basketball Association’s draft just hours away, UNCW’s Buzz Peterson finds himself on a unique list: He is one of 32 active NCAA Division I head basketball coaches that was selected in the NBA Draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers tabbed Peterson in the seventh round of the 1985 draft.
