Allison Lipsher Named Assistant Soccer Coach

GREENVILLE, N.C. July 2, 2012 – Former Duke Blue Devil standout and Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) player Allison Lipsher has been named assistant coach at East Carolina University according to an announcement from head coach Rob Donnenwirth Monday. “I am very excited to have Allison join our staff,” said Donnenwirth. “She will be an integral part of our goalkeepers’ development. Allison has had a great playing career at the collegiate and professional level and also has experience as a coach at the Division I level. WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads got a pair of goals from Corey Hertzog, and a goal and two assists from Bryce Taylor, as they took a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Blues on Saturday night at Legion Stadium. A pair of early goals keyed the Hammerheads’ victory, sending a crowd of 5,146 home happy as their side rebounded from a pair of defeats last weekend. Northbound, Antigua – The Charleston Battery lost to Antigua Barracuda FC by a score of one goal to none Sunday night at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Peter Byers scored the lone goal in the 47th minute driving a shot past Battery goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra from 12 yards out. Despite the loss Charleston (10-4-0) remains in second position in the USL PRO standings four points behind the Orlando City Lions. The Battery started brightly with forward Dino Williams causing problems for the Antigua back four. Wilson, N.C. – After two straight victories to close the first half of the Coastal Plain League season, the Wilmington Sharks (16-12, 0-1) couldn’t keep the wins rolling into the second half as they fell to the Wilson Tobs (10-19, 1-0) by a final score of 4-3 at Fleming Stadium. Red Cross Responds to Residents Affected By Severe Thunderstorms

Greenville, NC July 1, 2012 — Disaster Action Teams for the American Red Cross Pitt County Chapter have already responded to two calls of major damage to a residence following the severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area this evening. Red Cross workers are on the ground in the affected areas doing damage assessment and determining the immediate emergency needs of the storm victims. Additionally, the Red Cross has sent out their Emergency Response Vehicle to Beaufort County where more than 40 residents have been affected by the storms. Red Cross volunteers and staff remain on standby and will work closely with emergency and government officials to assess the needs of storm victims and open a temporary shelter if needed. […]

The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Friday, July 6 in Morehead City. With the rain out, the Marlins sit at 10-18 overall and 0-1 in the second half while the SwampDogs stay at 18-10 and have yet to play a game this half of the season. Carolina Hurricanes Agree to Terms with Justin Peters

Netminder appeared in seven NHL games for Carolina in 2011-12 RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Justin Peters on a two-year contract. The deal will pay Peters $525,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL, with a guarantee of at least $250,000 in 2012-13. He will be paid $550,000 in 2013-14.   Peters, 25, split the 2011-12 season between Carolina and the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. The Blyth, Ont., native went 2-3-2 with a 2.48 goals-against average and .931 save percentage for the Hurricanes in 2011-12. He appeared in 28 games for the Checkers, going […]
