Wilmington Sharks Bitten Again By Asheboro Copperheads

Wilmington, NC – For the second straight night, the Wilmington Sharks (11-9) couldn’t get past the Asheboro Copperheads (11-6-1), falling on their home turf by a 7-3 score. Asheboro started their offense right away, jumping on Mike Frank for three quick runs in the first inning. Preston Troutman led off with a walk, and came home when UNC Wilmington’s Hunter Ridge pounded a ball over the right center field wall for his first home run of the season. Corbin Shive also scored after taking a free pass to first, touching the plate on Luke Tendler’s triple. In the bottom of the first, the Sharks posted two runs of their own but couldn’t quite tie the game up. Casey Goss and […]

Forest City Starter Goes Seven Strong in 4-1 Win. Asheboro Comes From Behind In 3-2 Win Over Sharks

Asheboro, N.C. – The Asheboro Copperheads (10-6-1) took advantage of a seventh-inning error to score their third and winning run and hung on for a 3-2 victory over the Wilmington Sharks (11-8). Wilmington’s bats seemed to be alive from the very beginning with hard-hit balls against Asheboro starter Zach Parks, but twice fell victim to the strong arm of center fielder Preston Troutman thanks to strong throws to home plate and first base. In the third, Zach Stephens recorded an RBI for the second straight night when he drove a liner into left field, scoring Casey Goss from second base. Sharks pitcher Stephen Vaughan retired ten batters in a row following a pair of two-out singles in the first, but […]

Studies show Millennials are less involved

Studies show Millennials are less involved

By Madeline Bailey Staff Writer In spite of previous studies, researchers now say that Millennials, those born between 1982 and 2000, are less politically and civically involved than the Generation X and Baby Boomer generations. A new study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, describes Millennials as a generation more concerned with materialistic values and less focused on helping the community, according to USAToday.com. This generation is also less likely to get involved with helping the environment. The new study shows an increase in volunteering for the Millennials but only when it is required for school. “All student volunteers we have at Hotline are here for school requirements except for students referred by Teen Court,” said Lynn […]
