MOREHEAD CITY – North Carolina Seafood Festival officials announced they were the recipients of the MetroBravo Best Coastal Festival award from the Metro Magazine in Raleigh, NC.  “We have always known our festival was one of the best in North Carolina, now we are excited to say that it is official,” said Stephanie McIntyre, Executive Director of the festival.   The festival will be featured in the June issue of Metro Magazine, “Best of Metro Award Winners Coastal Edition”. South Carolina United Battery’s Pre-Academy and Developmental Academy teams achieve lofty goals for 2011-12 season

Charleston, SC – The 2011-12 season will be remembered for firsts as South Carolina United and the Charleston Battery joined forces to raise the level of elite boy’s soccer in the state of South Carolina. On Monday, May 28th South Carolina United Battery’s Pre-Academy Team defeated Charlotte Soccer Academy 4-0 to claim the inaugural South East Pre-Academy League Championship.  Next up for the 14 team is a trip to Nationals in Chicago, Illinois July 27-31. Boerner Earns Conference USA Spirit Of Service Award

IRVING, Texas June 12, 2012 – East Carolina graduate student Rachel Boerner has been named a recipient of the 2012 spring Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, according to an announcement Tuesday by the league. Boerner is currently working on her master’s degree in medical physics and earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2011-12 academic year. She transferred to ECU this year after completing her undergraduate degree from Calvin College, where she earned Division III All-America accolades in the 400-meter dash in 2010 and 2011 (indoor and outdoor). RALEIGH — The North Carolina Symphony awards the 2012 Maxine Swalin Award for Outstanding Music Educator to Burnsville, N.C., music teacher Dr. Timothy Babb, the organization announced today. Babb has served 32 years as band director at Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville. Displaying an extraordinary commitment to his school, he established numerous musical programs and inspired many of his students to pursue careers in music. He has opened up countless musical opportunities to students experiencing economic hardship and is a model for special education and inclusion in his own classroom. WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. June 11, 2012 – Former East Carolina baseball standout and assistant coach Billy Best is one of eight men who will be inducted as the 13th class into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame the league announced Sunday evening. The induction ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham, Mass. Best, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Pirates from 1977-80, played just one summer in the Cape for Falmouth where he batted .398 with a league record 32-game hitting streak for the Commodores in 1979. Wilmington, NC – Monday night’s Coastal Plain League contest between the Wilmington Sharks and the Edenton Steamers has been postponed due to inclement weather, and will be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, June 14 beginning at 6:05 p.m. Fans with tickets to Monday’s game can use those tickets for any remaining home game this season. On Thursday, both games of the doubleheader will be seven innings in length. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game One.
