CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head coach for cross country and track & field Amy Seago has announced the schedule for the 2012 cross country season. 2012 Schedule (PDF)   The Cougars will open the season by traveling to Columbia, S.C. to compete in the USC Gamecock Invitational Aug. 31. Boerner Earns Conference USA Spirit Of Service Award

IRVING, Texas June 12, 2012 – East Carolina graduate student Rachel Boerner has been named a recipient of the 2012 spring Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, according to an announcement Tuesday by the league. Boerner is currently working on her master’s degree in medical physics and earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2011-12 academic year. She transferred to ECU this year after completing her undergraduate degree from Calvin College, where she earned Division III All-America accolades in the 400-meter dash in 2010 and 2011 (indoor and outdoor). RALEIGH — The North Carolina Symphony awards the 2012 Maxine Swalin Award for Outstanding Music Educator to Burnsville, N.C., music teacher Dr. Timothy Babb, the organization announced today. Babb has served 32 years as band director at Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville. Displaying an extraordinary commitment to his school, he established numerous musical programs and inspired many of his students to pursue careers in music. He has opened up countless musical opportunities to students experiencing economic hardship and is a model for special education and inclusion in his own classroom. June 11, 2012 – Former East Carolina baseball standout and assistant coach Billy Best is one of eight men who will be inducted as the 13th class into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame the league announced Sunday evening. The induction ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham, Mass. Best, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Pirates from 1977-80, played just one summer in the Cape for Falmouth where he batted .398 with a league record 32-game hitting streak for the Commodores in 1979. Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville SwampDogs hosted a kid’s camp in partnership with Chevy Youth Baseball this past weekend. The two-day clinic concluded Sunday, June 10, and saw numerous campers from the Fayetteville area.
