Winner advances to third round versus MLS’s Portland Timbers Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Hammerheads have announced they will be playing Cal FC of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association in the Second Round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at Legion Stadium. ATHENS, Ga. May 17, 2012 — The East Carolina men’s golf team is in third place after the opening round of the NCAA Athens Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course on Thursday. The Pirates shot 8-under 276 on the par-71, 7,253-yard links. Live Scoring/Results Today’s 276 marks the first under-par round that ECU has posted in its seven rounds of play in NCAA competition. Its previous best was a 1-over 289 in the first round of the 1991 NCAA East Regional. The top five teams in the regional advance to the national finals in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning May 30. Sharks Announce New Concessions Provider at Legion Stadium

Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced that The Cheesy Banker food truck will provide concessions at Legion Stadium during the 2012 season. The Cheesy Banker provides All-American ballpark fare, including burgers, wings, cheese steaks, and much more.  The truck will bring its own flavor to games, operating, as owner Carter McKaughan says, “A full commercial kitchen on wheels.”  This will be the first time the Sharks can provide hot food to their fans, with cooked items coming out of the food truck and traditional refreshments such as candy, popcorn and soda being offered from the concession stand at Legion Stadium.  The concession stand will also be operated by The Cheesy Banker.   Everything […]

ITA Honors UNCW’s Aita As Emerging Player

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the recognized governing body for collegiate tennis, has designated UNCW sophomore Rafael Aita as the Carolina Region’s “Player to Watch” in its annual post-season awards announcement. The ITA singled out 12 players from NCAA Division I programs around the country for their 2012 accomplishments and future potential. Aita, a second-year player from Lima, Peru, went 17-4 in singles this season to help the Seahawks collect their third NCAA Regional berth in four years and is ranked 95th in the most recent ITA rankings. “I’m happy for Rafael because he is very deserving of this award,” said Mait DuBois, UNCW’s fifth-year head coach. “It’s a real confidence builder for him since other coaches […]
