ECU Has Three-Match Winning Streak End At Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. — East Carolina University men’s tennis team had its three-match winning streak ended Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 loss at Appalachian State. The loss dropped the Pirates’ overall record to 7-3, with all three losses coming on the road. The Pirates scored their lone point at No. 1 singles as sophomore Joran Vliegen defeated Alex Markov in three sets with each set going to a tie-breaker. Vliegen dropped the opening set, but rallied for 7-6 triumphs in the final two stanzas (8-6, 7-5). Canes Recall Mike Murphy from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Mike Murphy from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Murphy will be available for the Hurricanes’ game tonight at the RBC Center against the Washington Capitals. This marks the second NHL recall for the 23-year-old Murphy. The Kingston, Ont., native is 15-11-1 with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage in 29 games for the Checkers this season.
