The 26th Regiment North Carolina Troops, Reactivated, Funds Conservation of Battle of Gettysburg Confederate Flag

The 26th Regiment North Carolina Troops, Reactivated, Funds Conservation of Battle of Gettysburg Confederate Flag

The N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh is home to one of the nation’s largest collections of Confederate flags. Conservation of these banners requires expensive, specialized textile treatment. To help fund this need, the museum has formed a partnership with the 26th Regiment North Carolina Troops, Reactivated, the state’s largest Civil War re-enactment group. During a Jan. 21 presentation at the Museum of History, the 26th Regiment unveiled the sixth flag it has helped conserve: the battle flag of the 16th Regiment North Carolina Troops. Carried into the Battle of Gettysburg, the banner was captured during the Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble charge on July 3, 1863, by a soldier from the 14th Connecticut Volunteers. The regiment’s colors were sent to the U.S. War […]

Mast Repairs Completed on Battleship NORTH CAROLINA

WILMINGTON, NC – Repairs continue on the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA as officials announced today the completion of extensive rebuilds on the forward and main masts of the Ship. As part of the continual preservation of the Ship, the SK2 radar on the forward mast was lifted off the platform in December. The structure was rebuilt for reinforcement and placed back on the Ship in January. Now, as it sits on a sturdier foundation, maintenance staff will work on motor detail to have the radar turning by this summer. Safety work fulfilled on the forward and main masts included rebuild of handrails, strengthening of braces and strut supports for platform and yardarms. Exclusive to the main mast, a safety tether leading […]

Truth Team Alert? OFA Campaign Chief in Durham to Spin the Truth

Truth Team Alert? OFA Campaign Chief in Durham to Spin the Truth

RALEIGH, NC – NCGOP Executive Director Scott Laster had this to say, “Tonight Obama’s top campaign operatives will come to North Carolina in a desperate attempt to rally the troops. In their purely political appearance, Jim Messina and others have a golden opportunity to tell the truth to the students with whom they meet about how their policies have failed.   President Obama’s policy of spend, spend, and spend some more is putting future generations at serious risk. As a father I don’t want my children to grow up owing tens of thousands of dollars to a foreign lender, simply because President Obama spent their future away.   What Jim Messina should do is admit that the Democrats binge-spending has […]

2012 Baseball Preview: Pitching

By Sam Hickman ECUPirates.com Greenville, NC Feb. 14, 2012 – The 2011 East Carolina baseball team reached its second Regional Final in three years behind one of the nation’s best pitching staffs. After seeing their season come to an end against overall No. 1 seed Virginia in the Charlottesville Regional, the Pirates (41-21) finished the campaign with the seventh-ranked team earned run average in the country at a 2.67 clip. Hurlers such as Seth Maness, Brad Mincey, Mike Wright, and Seth Simmons made it difficult for opposing offenses to post big numbers against the Pirates. The vaunted collection of arms led the Purple and Gold to a final national ranking of No. 25 by Baseball America and No. 29 by […]

Cummings Eager to Continue Career Overseas

Cummings Eager to Continue Career Overseas

By Sam Hickman ECUPirates.com Greenville, NC Feb. 21, 2012 – Four years ago, an undersized striker from Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville, Va., explored several options regarding her future. She didn’t know which route she would take in attempting to extend her life as an amateur soccer player. Ultimately, Kimmy Cummings would venture south and earn a roster position for Coach Rob Donnenwirth and the East Carolina Pirates as a walk-on. Once merely an afterthought, it’s now hard to envision the program without Cummings. Although Cummings concluded an illustrious career on the pitch in November with a loss to Memphis in the Conference USA Tournament, her contributions as a senior were of a decided triumphant nature. The former non-scholarship athlete […]
