N.C. Museum of Art Reports over $13 Million in Direct Visitor Spending from Rembrandt in America

RALEIGH, N.C.—The North Carolina Museum of Art reported today that the Rembrandt in America exhibition injected over $13 million in direct visitor spending into the Wake County economy. Through occupancy, food and beverage, and sales taxes, over $350,000 in local tax revenue was generated by visitors to the exhibition. State sales tax generated was over $600,000. The exhibition’s 150,905 attendees were from all 100 North Carolina counties and all 50 states, plus Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, China, Germany, and more, for a total of 42 countries. New Hanover County, NC – Although preliminary information indicated bed bugs were observed within the New Hanover County Courthouse, positive identification reveals a domestic carpet beetle. After reports surfaced on Wednesday, court officials decided to suspend court operations from the building – shifting certain functions to nearby facilities. Superior Court resumed this morning from the Historic Courthouse, while civil proceedings took place from the Office of Juvenile Justice. “We’re pleased to announce that there were no indicators of bed bugs in this morning’s evaluation,” said Jerome Fennell, who serves as the County’s Property Management Director. Anchor and Cannon to be Showcased at QAR Lab Open House

  GREENVILLE – A lot can happen in 300 years, and an open house at the Queen Anne’s Revenge (QAR) Conservation Lab on Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will demonstrate the process of taking artifacts from ocean floor to museum door.  Visitors will learn about the science concerning QAR, Blackbeard’s flagship that ran aground near Beaufort, N.C., in 1718.  Items on display will include a 12-foot anchor and an 8-foot pirate cannon. Teen sexting has become far less common than what people think, according to Kimberly Mitchell, a research assistant psychology professor at the University of New Hampshire. The research, focused on teenagers, found that the texting of sexual photos among youngsters was rare. “I think today’s young kids have been raised by parents to know about sexting and to stay away from it,” one anonymous source said.
