Nicholson was a 2011 co-captain of the Hammerhead squad. A key player in the midfield, Nicholson is described by Hammerhead Head Coach David Irving as having “tireless energy” on the field. Playing every minute of all 24 games during the 2011 regular season, Nicholson had 14 shots on goal from his midfield position, scoring once. A native of Whitehaven, England, Nicholson played for the University of Rio Grande in Ohio between 2005 and 2008. Nicholson was named in the […]

RALEIGH, NC January 26 2012 – “Today President Obama unveiled a colossal failure: a budget that has a $1.33 Trillion deficit. This is a direct violation of his pledge to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. President Obama’s failure to lead on deficit-reduction proves that he cares only about optimistic sounding campaign rhetoric, and not serious solutions to the debt. Last year, Erskine Bowles helped lead a bi-partisan debt-reduction panel that laid out a plan to do just that. All of the hard work of the Bowles-Simpson commission was simply scrapped by the President, which is a perfect example of President Obama’s unwillingness to listen to serious ideas about debt-reduction. Another major fiscal problem […]
Fayetteville SwampDogs alum Andy Dirks is a celebrity…in the Dominican Republic. Fayetteville, NC – Dirks, an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers and former Fayetteville SwampDog, is a member of the D.R.’s Escogido baseball team, which won the Caribbean Series Monday. Escogido lost its game Monday to Venezuela, 7-0, but received help from Puerto Rico, which beat Mexico. With a 4-1 record, and one game left to play, the worst Escogido could be is 4-2, while the rest of the field would have no less than three losses, thus assuring Escogido – and Dirks – the series championship. Dirks has been a key role player for Escogido’s success. He’s batted .250 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored in […]
