McDowell County Library to Display Civil War Sesquicentennial Photography Exhibit

RALEIGH – Determination, commitment and pride are among many characteristics of North Carolinians depicted in the Freedom, Sacrifice, Memory: Civil War Sesquicentennial Photography Exhibit. The exhibit commemorates the role North Carolina played in the Civil War (1861-1865), a defining period in United States history. It will visit the McDowell County Public Library, March 2-29. “The Civil War was the first war widely covered with photography.  The Freedom, Sacrifice, Memory exhibit provides images of historic figures, artifacts, and documents that brought the reality of the war from the battlefront to the home front, then and now,” explains Deputy Secretary Dr. Jeffrey Crow of the N.C. Civil War Cannon Returns to N.C. for 150th Anniversary of Battle of New Bern

RALEIGH, NC – A Confederate cannon seized by the 21st Regiment Mass. Volunteer Infantry during the Battle of New Bern on March 14, 1862, has returned to North Carolina for the 150th anniversary of the battle. The six-pounder bronze cannon tube is on exhibit at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh until June 2015. Admission is free. At the outbreak of the Civil War, the cannon was issued to Company C, 10th N.C. State Troops (the Charlotte Artillery), which was sent to defend New Bern. A week after the battle, Union Gen. Ever since I knew we were going to play in the Cal State Fullerton tournament, it has been so exciting. I was so antsy on that plane ride yesterday. It took forever. Luckily, I slept most of the way out here. I had an accounting test Thursday morning that I had to take and stayed up late Wednesday night studying for it. We had weights Thursday at 6 a.m., so I took full advantage of the time to sleep on the plane. But I got an A on the test, so the preparing paid off. When we […]
