Activities include pub tours throughout Southport and Oak Island, beach game tournaments and concerts. An annual festival, it is expected to draw many Buffett fans from across North Carolina and neighboring states. The fun begins with a local Parrot Head Pub & Grub Crawl on Friday, August 22nd. Only for a Limited Time Aug. 2-Sept. 13 WINNABOW, NC July 17, 2014 – A cannon ball, window glass and gold dust from the wreck of Blackbeard’s flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge (QAR), will be on exhibit at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site from Aug. 2 to Sept. 13. A ribbon cutting will open the exhibit and will feature a talk about artifacts recovered from the shipwreck by QAR Project Director Billy Ray Morris. There will be artifacts shown that represent weaponry, nautical tools and personal items. The Saturday opening also will offer and great family fun. Children can enjoy pirate-y games and crafts. The 36th NC 4th of July Freedom Run SOUTHPORT, NC June 10, 2014 – The NC 4th of July Festival will hold the 36th Annual Freedom Run on Saturday, June 28th at 8am, starting and finishing at the Southport Waterfront. The Festival is excited to announce that the run will include color gauntlets again this year, as well as a red and blue color outburst just before the run during the Opening Ceremony.  Participants of the Freedom Run who wish to participate in the Color Outburst will gather in a designated area in Waterfront Park before 7:45am and be given a bag of red or blue non-toxic powdered paint.  They are encouraged to wear white shirts and must wear sunglasses. SOUTHPORT, NC June 8, 2014 –    The 70th Anniversary of D –Day has the world focusing on honoring those who served in World War II and the N.C. 4th of July Festival is no exception.   This year’s parade on Friday, July 4th will be marshaled by BMCS A. SOUTHPORT, NC June 6, 2014 – The 2013-14 class of Leadership Brunswick County (LBC) held their graduation ceremony on May 21, at South Brunswick Islands Center, a facility that is part of Brunswick Community College. The 13-14 class had eight members from Brunswick County who met monthly for the last nine months beginning in September 2013. LBC is an accelerated leadership training class for emerging leaders in the communities of Brunswick County. It is sponsored by Brunswick Community College, Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, and Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce. SOUTHPORT, NC Feb. 21, 2014 – There are as many types of chowders as there will be those cooking at the Annual Chowder Cook-off on Sunday, March 9th from 1pm-4pm at the Oak Island Moose Lodge. Eastern NC Red Cross Prepares for Winter Storm

Tips to Stay Safe during Winter Weather EASTERN, NC, Feb. 11, 2014 – As the southeast once again braces for winter storms, the Eastern NC Region of the American Red Cross is preparing to respond if needed.  Five teams of Red Cross shelter volunteers are on standby in the Cape Fear, Coastal Carolina and Onslow County Chapter areas in the event that shelters need to be opened.   Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) crews are also on standby to drive Red Cross disaster relief vehicles located in Wilmington, New Bern, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, and Elizabeth City.  These vehicles can be mobilized to transport and distribute food, drinks, and supplies into disaster affected areas when travel becomes safe.
