Washington County farmer supports local library through America’s Farmers Grow Communities

PLYMOUTH, NC Feb. 21, 2014 – Local farmer Heber A. Respass has directed a $2,500 donation to the Washington County Library. Funded by America’s Farmers Grow Communities, the donation will help the organization purchase adjustable shelving, which will allow them to store taller books. Respass is a proud supporter of the library, and appreciates the education they provide for all age groups. Thanks to the support of farmers like Mr. Respass, more than $3.2 million is being directed to nonprofits in 1,289 counties in 39 states. WASHINGTON, NC Feb. 20, 2014 — Minnesota wildlife artist Scot Storm took top honors in the 2014 N.C. Waterfowl Conservation Stamp and Print Competition with his vivid portrayal of a pair of hooded mergansers. The acrylic painting will become the image on what is commonly referred to as the North Carolina duck stamp. It was unveiled earlier this month at the 19th Annual East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival and the N.C. Decoy Carving Championships in Beaufort County during an evening preview reception. Tips to Stay Safe during Winter Weather EASTERN, NC, Feb. 11, 2014 – As the southeast once again braces for winter storms, the Eastern NC Region of the American Red Cross is preparing to respond if needed.  Five teams of Red Cross shelter volunteers are on standby in the Cape Fear, Coastal Carolina and Onslow County Chapter areas in the event that shelters need to be opened.   Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) crews are also on standby to drive Red Cross disaster relief vehicles located in Wilmington, New Bern, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, and Elizabeth City.  These vehicles can be mobilized to transport and distribute food, drinks, and supplies into disaster affected areas when travel becomes safe. The 16th Century representative ship will arrive in Washington late Thursday morning, October 25, and will be at K Dock on the Washington waterfront.
