MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team will open its fall season this Friday, Sept. 30 with the first of four doubleheaders the team will host over the next three weeks. All games will be played at Patriots Point and admission will always be free to the public. The fall slate opens on Friday, Sept. 30 when the Cougars host crosstown-rival Charleston Southern on Sunday, Sept. 30. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston freshman outside hitter Melissa Morello has been named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Morello helped lead the Cougars to a 2-0 week with wins at Charleston Southern and Elon. The outside hitter averaged 3.57 kills per set as she tallied 25 kills, one block, 17 digs and an assist for the Cougars. Morello’s 13 kills against CSU ranked as a new season high for her, while her hitting percentage of .360 at Elon was her highest hitting mark this season.
