PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country teams got a preview of the course they will run the Southern Conference Championship on in two weeks as they competed at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational on Saturday at Laurel Hill Plantation. The women were led by sophomore Hayley McMahon, who came within four seconds of her career-best as she finished fifth in the women’s 5K race in 18:08.40. Two other women finished under 19 minutes for the Cougars as freshman Kornelia Kostka was the next finisher in 18:49.75 for 13th place and sophomore Danielle Sams finished 14th in 18:51.03. MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s soccer team was downed by No. 2 North Carolina in front of 2,055 fans at Patriots Point on Saturday evening. The Cougars possessed well but struggled to get behind the nation’s best defense in the 3-0 result. CofC (6-8-0) proved its ability to maintain possession but could not find space in the attacking end and saw its runs cut out. Cougar Women’s Golf Heads West for Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s golf team will travel to Palm Desert, Calif., this week as they prepare to compete in the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate Oct. 13-14 at the Classic Golf Club. The Cougars will have a practice round Friday, will start tournament play with 36 holes on Saturday and a final round 18 holes on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. In their last tournament the Cougars competed in the Penn State Invitational and finished in fourth-place. Despite falling behind 23-7 after the first quarter, the Cats bounced back nicely but weren’t able to hold off the Hornets in a 90-87 loss. VENICE, Fla. – Former College of Charleston women’s golfer (2006-09) and current Symetra Tour member Fiona Puyo fired a first-round 7-under par 65 to take the lead at the second stage of the 2012 Qualifying Tournament.
