Jury expands his role on team after four years as a volunteer assistant   CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team and head coach Shelly Hoerner have announced the hire of Jake Jury as an assistant coach. Jury expands his role with the team after spending four seasons as a volunteer assistant coach since the 2009 season.   “I am excited for Jake to remain a member of our staff,” said Hoerner. “He has developed a great rapport with our staff and our players and has helped Cougar softball continue to improve every year. Cuevas lifts Battery over Lions

Dayton, OH – Jose Cuevas scored the lone goal as the Battery ground out a one nil win over the Dayton Dutch Lions Saturday night at BeaverCreek Stadium. The win lifts the Battery (8-2-0) into second position in the USL PRO standings.   The game was very chippy and with both sides intent on not conceding there were few goal-scoring chances.   Battery goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra was finally called into action in the 20th minute saving a low shot from Dayton’s Andrew Bardsley.   Charleston forward Salieu Bundu battled for much of the first half alone up front. CofC Season Ends With 3-0 Defeat To #24 Georgia Tech

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – College of Charleston pitcher Josh Renfro performed admirably in his final start for the Cougars, but Georgia Tech reliever Alex Cruz quieted the CofC bats in a 3-0 pitcher’s duel in a nationally-televised elimination game of the NCAA Gainesville Regional. The Cougars end the season with a 38-22 record and the program’s fifth NCAA appearance with the fourth SoCon Regular Season championship. Renfro and Cruz were locked in a defensive struggle until a fluke play in the sixth inning allowed the Yellow Jackets to get on the board. Matt Pegler Leads Cougars Over Bethune-Cookman, 8-2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – College of Charleston starting pitcher Matt Pegler pitched his first career complete game and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning as the Cougars defeated Bethune-Cookman, 8-2, in an NCAA Gainesville Regional elimination game. Pegler (10-2) won his 10th game of the season as he allowed two hits and two runs while striking out a career-best nine Wildcats in his first career complete game. Pegler did not allow a walk in the contest as he went into the sixth inning before allowing a hit. Cougars Place Sixth at ICSA Women’s National Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 13-ranked College of Charleston women’s sailing team finished sixth on the final day of the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women’s National Championship co-hosted by the University of Texas Sailing Team and the Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis. The Cougars were one of 18 women’s teams competing for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy which was won by eventual team champion Boston College. They won the head-to-head tiebreaker over the U.S. Naval Academy for sixth. The race committee was able to run seven races in both A-and B-Divisions completing the championship with 13 races total in A and B over the three days of the regatta.
