College of Charleston Men’s Golf Signs Transfer from North Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former North Carolina golfer Zach Munroe, who finished in third-place at the Rice Planters Amateur June 18-23 in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., will transfer to the College of Charleston.   Munroe, who competed in three tournaments during the fall of his freshman season at North Carolina finished tied for fifth-place at the North Carolina Amateur Championship June 17 in Durham, N.C. with rounds of 72-76-69-70=287 (-1).   Munroe shot rounds of 70-67-68-66=271 in his third-place finish at the Rice Planters Amateur, three shots back of the winner.   “I am very excited about adding Zach to our program,” CofC men’s golf head coach Mark McEntire said. “With our excellent incoming freshman class this team is capable of doing […]

Charleston, SC – The Charleston Battery lost 2-0 to the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 4,437.  After a scoreless first half Charlotte broke the deadlock in the 48th minute with a close-range finish from midfielder Nate Thornton.  The Eagles added a second ten minutes from time as Charleston lost a second consecutive game.   Despite the loss the Battery (10-5-0) remains in second position in USL PRO four points behind the league-leading Orlando City Lions.  Charlotte (5-8-2) moves up into a tie for seventh position in the tables.   The first half was very even with good chances for both teams.  Charleston best opportunity came in the 36th minute after Jose Cuevas slipped a […]

Wet Grounds Postpone Charleston RiverDogs vs Savannah Sand Gnats

Doubleheader to be Played on Saturday SAVANNAH, GA- The South Atlantic League game between the Charleston RiverDogs and the Savannah Sand Gnats was postponed on Thursday night due to wet grounds at Historic Grayson Stadium. As a result, both teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday that will include two seven inning games and will start at 5:05 pm. The game set for Friday night will be played as scheduled and will be a normal nine inning game. The starting pitchers for Friday’s game are TBD.–RIVERDOGS– This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.

CHARLESTON, SC – Denny McLain, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who is the Major League’s last 30-game winner, will appear at the Charleston RiverDogs-Asheville Tourists game on July 11 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. He will sign copies of his 2007 autobiography, “I Told You I Wasn’t Perfect,” and will also throw the ceremonial first pitch, which is slated for 7:05 pm. McLain pitched for the Detroit Tigers (1963-70), Washington Senators (1971), Oakland A’s (1972) and the Atlanta Braves (1972) and fashioned a career 131-91 record with a 3.39 ERA and 1,282 strikeouts. OMAHA, Neb. – College of Charleston rising junior Daniel Aldrich could not defend his title in the 2012 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby, failing to hit a home run in the first round of the competition in TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series. Aldrich entered the event as the defending title-holder after hitting 14 home runs in last year’s Derby, including four in the final round to defeat Georgia Southern’s Victor Roache.
