We did it again! Rescue, rehabilitate, release; it’s what we do! And if you’re a sea turtle, the very best part of what we do is release. That’s what happened to fourteen fully rehabilitated patients on June 6th. After spending from several years to just a few short months under our care, six large Loggerheads, two small Greens and six Kemp’s of varying sizes were given a hearty breakfast, a farewell ceremony and then loaded into their chariots for a short trip to the beach. Marty Gantt Set To Play With Hudson Valley Renegades

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Former Cougar outfielder Marty Gantt has signed with the Hudson Valley Renegades after being drafted in the seventh round by the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month. The Renegades play in the McNamara Divison of the Short-Season A New York-Penn League. A native of North Augusta, S.C., Gantt was the 2012 SoCon Player of the Year and a Third Team Louisville Slugger All-American. He led the team with a .373 average with 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 29 stolen bases. Gantt and the Renegades open the 2012 summer season on Monday, June 18, against the Aberdeen IronBirds.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston will play host to the 2012 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant on Nov. 15, 16 & 18, at TD Arena.   The CofC men’s basketball team will be one of eight teams competing in the tournament field which includes 2012 NCAA Tournament participants Baylor (Big 12), Colorado (Pac-12) and Murray State (OVC) as well as Auburn (SEC), Boston College (ACC), Dayton (A-10) and St. John’s (BIG EAST). Charleston, SC – The 2011-12 season will be remembered for firsts as South Carolina United and the Charleston Battery joined forces to raise the level of elite boy’s soccer in the state of South Carolina. On Monday, May 28th South Carolina United Battery’s Pre-Academy Team defeated Charlotte Soccer Academy 4-0 to claim the inaugural South East Pre-Academy League Championship.  Next up for the 14 team is a trip to Nationals in Chicago, Illinois July 27-31. CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior left-handed pitcher Josh Renfro has signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.   Renfro joins drafted teammates Marty Gantt (Tampa Bay), Christian Powell (Minnesota) and David Peterson (Atlanta) and fellow pitcher Kyle Owings (Arizona, FA) as Cougars selected by MLB clubs in 2012.   A native of Bradenton, Fla., Renfro was a Preseason All-SoCon selection in 2012. He recorded a team-best 11 strikeouts twice, including in a complete-game win over Wofford (3/16).   He finished his CofC career with a gutsy pitching performance in a 3-0 elimination loss to Georgia Tech in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Continues 20 year tradition of playing international exhibitions Charleston, SC – When the Charleston Battery takes on the two-time European champions Nottingham Forest at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday, July 28 it will continue a twenty year tradition of Charleston hosting and playing international soccer teams.  The tradition began in the Battery’s inaugural season back in 1993 when Charleston defeated Jamaica’s Constant Spring FC 2-1 behind goals from Guy Norcott and Nigel James.   The Battery played a second international exhibition that season losing in May, 1993 1-0 to Latvian side, FK-RAF Riga.   In 1996 the Battery played a different type of international exhibition as it squared off with the US Olympic team as part of the USA’s preparations for […]
