Capps and Bae Set to Defend Titles at 7th Carolinas Young Amateur

SOUTHERN PINES, NC Dec. 19, 2014 – The seventh Carolinas Young Amateur will be contested December 29-30, 2014 on the Magnolia golf course at Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, NC. The event is a 36-hole stroke play tournament for male and female amateur golfers ages 18 to 24 who have finished high school. In last year’s championship, Miller Capps, of Denver, N.C., finished with a 36-hole total of 138 for a one-shot victory in the men’s division. Capps, a junior at Clemson University was co-champion at the Puerto Rico Classic. Philip Oweida, of Charlotte, N.C., finished in lone second after shooting a tournament-best six-under par 66. CLEMSON, SC Oct. 19, 2014 —Former Clemson All-American Ben Martin sank a 46-foot eagle putt on the par five 16th hole on Sunday and went on to win the Shriner’s Hospital For Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the first PGA Tour win for Martin, who is in his third year on the PGA Tour.  Martin is the ninth winner of the tournament to make a victory in Las Vegas his first  career triumph.  That list includes Tiger Woods, who made his first PGA victory at this event in 1996. GREENSBORO, NC Sept. 26, 2014 – Final round results of the 53rd Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Sedgefield Country Club (Dye Course) in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, September 26, 2014 (6350 yards, par 35-36—71, 71.7,136). Playing in the next to last group of the day, Jim Grainger, 58, of Charlotte, N.C. fired a tournament-low round of five-under 66 to win the 53rd Carolinas Senior Amateur by one stroke. Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net.  90 percent of a player’s course handicap is used to determine net scores. TYGA announces the TYGA Tots Tournament Program

WEST END, NC August 27, 2014 – The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), a division of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), is proud to announce the expansion of its junior golf tournament program.  TYGA has created a new series of one day events for junior girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 11 years of age called the TYGA Tots. These events will be conducted across NC and will consist of 9-hole tournaments played under a modified Stableford scoring system.
