St. Andrews Knights Lacrosse wins first division game

By Troy Baranik Charleston, SC March 20, 2014 – The St. Andrews University men’s  lacrosse team won their first division game on Wednesday evening topping The Citadel 10-8. The win moves SAU into second place in the division at 1-1 and 3-5 overall. The top two finishers in the 5 team division will qualify for the 8 team conference tournament in April. The Citadel falls to 3-5 overall and 0-1. St. Andrews only managed to score one goal apiece in the first and fourth quarters. However, their offense exploded during the middle two quarters scoring 4 goals in each as they hung on for the 10-8 victory. By Troy Baranik Box Score Laurinburg, NC March 19, 2014 – The St. Andrews University women’s lacrosse team lost a tough conference matchup to the Columbia Koalas on Tuesday falling 23-22 as the Knights celebrated senior day. Senior attacker Jackie Jones (SR/Springfield, VA) was the standout for the Knights as they unfortunately had to play a man down for the majority of the second half due to numerous injuries to their players. However, Jones was able to carry St. Andrews to a big 12-6 lead with 5 minutes to play in the first half as she scored numerous goals. By Troy Baranik Box Score Laurinburg, NC Feb. 22, 2014 – The St. Andrews University women’s lacrosse team lost their first conference game of the season on Saturday falling 16-9 to the Eagles of Reinhardt University at Knights Field. After Reinhardt scored the opening goal, senior Jackie Jones led the Lady Knights right down the field to tie it at one. However, RU would go into the half with a 10-4 lead as they began to gain possession by winning 17 draw controls throughout the game. By Troy Baranik Box Score Laurinburg, NC Feb. 16, 2014 – The St. Andrews University women’s lacrosse team was defeated 19-2 in their season opener to Lenoir-Rhyne University (NC) on Sunday afternoon. LRU, an NCAA Div. II team that won their conference, the South Atlantic, last season jumped on the Lady Knights early scoring four goals in under 5 minutes. They then ran the score to 10-0 in just ten minutes before SAU called a timeout. St. Andrews Men’s Lacrosse loses heartbreaker 12-11

By Troy Baranik Box Score Charleston, SC Feb. 15, 2014 – The St. Andrews University men’s lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker 12-11 to conference rival College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon. SAU’s rally fell short as they scored 6 goals in the fourth quarter after only scoring 5 through the first three quarters. However it was not enough in the end as the Knights fell to 0-2. Sophomore Jason Wilson led SAU with 4 goals while fellow sophomores Connor Cather and Cha’Sed Miller combined for five goals. Senior Chris Michela also scored two along with 3 assists. By Troy Baranik Box Score Laurinburg, NC Feb. 9, 2014 – The St. Andrews University Men’s lacrosse team fell in their home opener Sunday afternoon 16-11 to the University of Dayton at Knights Field. After the Knights got on the board first, Dayton (2-0) would come charging back to score the next 6 goals to take a 6-1 lead at half while also outshooting the Knights 29-5 in the first half. However, St. Andrews would not back down and came roaring back to almost catch the Flyers by outscoring them 10-7 after being down 9-1 early in the third quarter. SAU Men’s Lacrosse season opener postponed; ranked in various preseason polls

By: Troy Baranik Laurinburg, NC January 30, 2014 – The St. Andrews University vs. Tennessee Wesleyan season-opening men’s lacrosse game scheduled for Saturday February 1 has been postponed due to the winter storm. The game will now be made up on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrews. The St. Andrews men, led by first year interim head coach Joe Wilson, are the reigning SELC Northeast Division champions and are ranked 19th in the preseason Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associaton (MCLA) National Poll released in January as well as the US Lacrosse Magazine Preseason National Poll. MIDDLE SCHOOL LACROSSE FOR GIRLS AT SURF CITY SURF CITY, September 20, 2013 – A joint effort between Loggerhead Lacrosse and Surf City Parks & Recreation will be bringing yet another exciting program to the SCP&R fields this fall. The instructional program, Middle School Lacrosse, for middle school girls will begin Wednesday, September 25th and run Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5:30 – 7 pm (4:30 – 6 pm after DST ends). Junior goalkeeper Steven Rastivo makes 16 saves in 9-8 win.   BALTIMORE, MD. — Steven Rastivo made 16 saves to earn Most Valuable Player honors of the 2012 Konica Minolta Face-off Classic as eighth-ranked North Carolina defeated 14th-ranked Princeton 9-8 at M&T Bank Stadium. Princeton outshot the Tar Heels 43-22 in the game but Rastivo proved to be a stone wall in the cage to keep the Tigers at bay, including a seven-save performance in the fourth quarter alone.   The win was a needed one for the Tar Heels who had lost back-to-back games to Lehigh and Penn. Lehigh Holds Off Fourth-Ranked North Carolina 9-8

Mountain Hawks earn first win over Tar Heels since 1951.   CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Lehigh outscored North Carolina 5-0 over a span of 25:11 from the second through fourth quarters and went on to beat the fourth-ranked Tar Heels 9-8 at Fetzer Field Saturday night. The loss was the first for the Tar Heels against an unranked team at Fetzer Field since March 5, 2004 when Navy downed Carolina 9-8 in overtime.   The Mountain Hawks improved to 4-1 on the season as they recorded their first win over Carolina since April 4, 1951 when Lehigh defeated the Tar Heels 6-3 in Chapel Hill.
