Carolina Hurricanes reduce training camp by 10 players

Jordan Staal placed on injured reserve; Carolina’s roster now at 25 players RALEIGH, NC Oct. 2, 2014 – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has trimmed its training camp roster by 10 players. It also was announced that center Jordan Staal has been placed on injured reserve. With the moves, just 25 players remain in the team’s training camp heading into its final two exhibition games, Friday at PNC Arena against Buffalo and Sunday at Washington. Playing in the next to last group of the day, Jim Grainger, 58, of Charlotte, N.C. fired a tournament-low round of five-under 66 to win the 53rd Carolinas Senior Amateur by one stroke. CLEMSON, SC Sept. 26, 2014 – The Clemson men’s soccer team defeated Wake Forest 3-1 in front of 3,084 fans, including members of the 1984 National Championship team and their families, at Historic Riggs Field on Friday night. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-4-0 and 2-1-0 in the ACC, while Wake falls to 4-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the conference. Gamecocks outshoot Marshall but can’t find net in setback COLUMBIA, SC Sept. 27, 2014 – South Carolina (4-4, 0-1 C-USA) dominated possession and offensive opportunities on Friday night at Stone Stadium, but Marshall (2-3-2, 1-0-0 C-USA) came away with a 1-0 win in the 93rd minute with Daniel Jodah scoring the golden goal. Jodah put pressure on the Gamecock defense early in the overtime period, and the head attempt back to the keeper got away from everyone, allowing Jodah to shoot the ball into the net past a lunging defender trying to make the last-gasp save. Center suffered a fractured fibula during Tuesday’s game in Buffalo RALEIGH, NC Sept. 25, 2014 – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced center Jordan Staal will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a fractured fibula in his right leg. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Kevin Logel and Dr. Marty Isbell at Raleigh Orthopaedic and recovery time is estimated at three to four months.
