Cruise the Coast to Celebrate National Estuaries Day

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC Sept. 9. 2014 – The N.C. Coastal Federation is hosting the inaugural “Cruise for the Coast” to celebrate our estuaries and support the federation’s education programs. The three-hour cruise to Masonboro Island will depart from Carolina Beach on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. aboard the 65-foot Winner Cruise Queen.   On the island, participants can walk the beach with federation staff and Richard Cecelski of Carolina Ocean Studies. Charlotte Hornets And Lowe’s To Donate $50,000 In Education Grants

Charlotte-Area Public Schools & Nonprofits Can Apply On Hornets.com   CHARLOTTE, NC Sept. 9, 2014 – The Charlotte Hornets and Lowe’s today announced they will award $50,000 for education-related projects in Mecklenburg County this fall as part of the longtime partners’ education grant program. For the second consecutive year, the grants will fund high-need projects at public schools and nonprofit education programs in the Charlotte area. Charlotte-area public schools (kindergarten through 12th grade) and all 501(c)(3) organizations that support public education in Mecklenburg County are eligible to apply for a grant at http://www.nba.com/hornets/2014-15-education-grant-application. The Gamecocks (1-1) dropped three spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 24, while they fell two slots to No. 23 in the Amway Coaches’ poll. CHARLOTTE, NC Sept. 2, 2014 – Charlotte Hornets forward Noah Vonleh underwent successful surgery today to repair a sports hernia suffered in a recent workout.  The surgery was performed in Charlotte by Dr. B. Todd Henneford.  Vonleh is expected to miss approximately 6-8 weeks. The ninth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Vonleh was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Third Team All-Big Ten in 2013-14 at Indiana University after averaging 11.3 points, a Big Ten-high 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 26.5 minutes per game. Bulls, Rays to Continue Player Development Relationship Through 2018 DURHAM, NC Sept. 1, 2014 – During today’s regular season finale at the DBAP, the Durham Bulls announced the extension of their Player Development Contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, which will lengthen the Bulls’ affiliation with the Rays through the end of the 2018 season. The four-year contract comes on the heels of a four-year deal signed in August, 2009, that went in to effect after the 2010 season. In the last four years of the affiliation, the Bulls have captured three International League South Division titles and the 2013 Governors’ Cup Championship.
