Clemson Tigers Knock Off UNC Asheville 2-0 in Final Exhibition

ASHEVILLE, NC August 23, 2014 – The Clemson men’s soccer team defeated UNC Asheville 2-0 in its final exhibition contest of the season Saturday night. The game was played at the Carolina Day School Soccer Complex in Asheville. Iman Mafi scored both Tiger goals in the first half. The first came in the 34th minute off an assist from junior T.J. Casner. Mafi’s second score was six minutes later, in the 40th minute, and was an unassisted goal for the sophomore midfielder. TWO UNEARNED RUNS UPEND BIRDS IN SIX-INNING GAME   LYNCHBURG, VA August 23, 2014 – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, suffered a rain-shortened 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday night at Calvin Falwell Field. The Birds allowed two unearned runs in the fourth, the game was delayed in the sixth, and ultimately called due to inclement weather. Both starting pitchers worked out of jams in the early going. Bill Auberlen equaled his season’s-best qualifying effort today at Virginia International Raceway, driving the No. 55 BMW Team RLL Z4 to the outside front row starting position for tomorrow’s 2.75-hour TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Oak Tree Grand Prix. His lap of 1:44.053 minutes around the 3.27-mile, 17-turn VIR circuit was only .256 seconds behind the pole-sitting Ferrari. The entire class was separated by only 1.015 seconds.
