*Written by student assistant Kelly McAlindin Columbia, SC – Following practice Wednesday, Gamecock Football coaches and players offered comments about where they stand after defeating Tennessee and the game plan for remaining four games of the season. The Gamecocks are now ranked No. 8 in the BCS polls, which is the same ranking the team was given at the beginning of the season. Surf City to Host Basketball, Indoor Soccer and Volleyball This Winter

SURF CITY, NC – Prime time is here for indoor sports as Surf City Parks & Recreation is expanding its adult sports offerings. Adult Basketball is returning after a several year absence while Adult Volleyball and Indoor Soccer will be new activities. All adult sports are open to participants 16 years and older and all games will be played in the Community Center Gymnasium.   The open basketball league will play Thursday nights in January and February with games to begin at 6 pm. Players may register individually or entire teams may enter the league. The cost is $400 for a team or $50 per individual. Practice time will be made available on Thursdays in December. Nov. 5, 2012 – Whitney Campbell led the Pirates with a .400 hitting percentage after knocking down eight kills on 15 attempts in the East Carolina volleyball team’s 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 22-25, 21-25) loss at Memphis on Sunday. With the loss the Pirates drop to 1-24 on the year and fall to 0-14 in the conference, while the Tigers move to 11-18 overall and 6-8 in C-USA play. LONG BEACH, Calif. – It has been a little over two months since College of Charleston senior sailor and two-time Olympian Juan Maegli (Guatemala City, Guatemala) competed amongst the world’s best in the Men’s Laser Class at the 2012 London Olympic Games – and the fierce competitor inside of him hasn’t stopped there. Although he has raced in FJs and 420s this fall upon his return to the squad, single-handed boats are his specialty, and this weekend, he won his second individual national title amongst college sailing’s best as the 2012 LaserPerformance/ICSA Men’s Singlehanded national champion and Glen S. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s tennis team capped off an excellent weekend with flighted singles and doubles matches against UNC Charlotte on the final day of the Charleston Challenge held Sunday at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point. Junior Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) and sophomore Charlie Ghriskey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) finished undefeated in singles play for the weekend, while Ghriskey and sophomore Alon Faiman (Ramat Hasharon, Israel) went unbeaten in doubles. Lesser defeated Jack Williams of Charlotte, 6-4, 6-1, in Flight 2 singles and Ghriskey topped Krzysztof Kwasniewicz, 6-1, 6-0, in Flight 6 singles. PLEASANT, S.C. – A big team effort led the College of Charleston sailing team to victory at the home-hosted 2012 SAISA/MAISA regatta held on Saturday and Sunday along Crab Bank on Charleston Harbor. Each of the Cougars’ four teams comprised of 16 sailors competing in the two divisions placed in the top 5, while South Florida finished third with 177 points, Eckerd College sixth (215), Georgia Tech (218) seventh, George Washington (273) eighth, Clemson (324) ninth and The Citadel (374) 10th.   WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s tennis team closed out its fall invitational tournament Sunday with a sparkling 32-4 record over the three-day event at the UNCW courts. The Seahawks wrapped up their fall schedule and don’t play again until opening the spring season on Jan. 20 against visiting Troy. Coach Mait DuBois and his team went 22-2 in singles and 10-2 in doubles against Boston College, Davidson and East Tennessee State. UNCW compiled a 4-0 record in doubles against ETSU on Sunday and 6-2 against Davidson in singles. The Gamecocks held steady in the coaches’ poll while dropping one notch in the AP rankings this week. The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) enjoyed their bye week this past week.
