Junior Became 12th 1,000-Yard Rusher In School History IRVING, Texas – East Carolina continued to claim awards from Conference USA Wednesday with the selection of Vintavious Cooper as the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year. It is the second time in the last three years that the award has gone to a Pirate, following Dominique Davis’ selection in 2010. Cooper, who was a Second-Team All C-USA selection, ranks among the league leaders in rushing (fifth/85.8 pg) and all-purpose yards (sixth/104.7 pg). He has totaled 1,030 yards on the ground this season on 191 carries (5.4 ypc), becoming the first Pirate back since 2009 (Dominique Lindsay) to break the 1,000-yard rushing barrier. Vliegen won singles and doubles flight in his final tournament of the fall IRVING, Texas Dec. 5, 2012 – After winning both singles and doubles titles at the “Big Jim” Russell Memorial Invitational at North Carolina earlier this season, East Carolina junior Joran Vliegen has been named Conference USA (C-USA) Men’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Month for November. Vliegen captured the Blue Flight title at the “Big Jim” Russell Memorial Invitational at North Carolina with a pair of three-set victories. He first defeated Virginia Tech’s Luca Oliveria, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, followed by eliminating North Carolina’s William Parker, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Home games against UCF and UTEP will be televised on WITN starting at 7 p.m. GREENVILLE, N.C. Dec. 5, 2012 – A pair of East Carolina men’s basketball Conference USA games have been picked up for local television coverage and game times have been moved to accommodate the broadcasts. The Pirates’ C-USA home opener against UCF will be televised throughout eastern North Carolina on WITN and is slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
