Bye Week Workouts Continue Columbia, SC Oct. 31, 2012 – The No. 11/11 South Carolina Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) worked out Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields. The Gamecocks are enjoying their bye week this week. They will return to action on Saturday, November 10, when they host the Arkansas Razorbacks in a noon start at WBS. CofC Equestrian Continues Excellence with Two First Place Finishes

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team furthered its lead in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 5 Region 3 standings with two first-place finishes at a pair of shows hosted by Lander. With 109 points in the standings, the Cougars have now constructed an 18-point lead over the region after winning the first three shows of the season. Second-place South Carolina sits at 91 points followed by Georgia Southern with 78. The Cougars won the first show in thrilling fashion, trailing eventual second and third place finishers Clemson and Georgia Southern for most of the day. Bulter Named First-Team, Maurer And Oughton Named Second-Team Complete C-USA Release EL PASO, Texas Oct. 31, 2012 – East Carolina senior captains Caty Butler, Maddie Maurer and Hali Oughton were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Teams, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday morning. Butler earned her second-straight academic honor, while Maurer and Oughton are first-time selections. Butler, who was a second-team all-academic selection a year ago, is a three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and C-USA Academic Medal winner who holds a 3.89 overall GPA in exercise sports science (sports studies). Wildlife Commission Offers Special Deer Hunting Opportunity for Youth

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 31, 2012) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering a special youth-only deer hunting opportunity on Dec. 8 near New Bern. The hunt is limited to 15 youth, between 12 and 16 years old, on a first-come, first-served basis with pre-registration required. All hunting will take place at the Weyerhaeuser-Cool Springs Environmental Education Center on U.S. 17 between Vanceboro and New Bern. To be eligible, participants must have completed a hunter education course successfully. During the hunt, the youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult. Gamecocks to Host Coastal Carolina For First Time on Nov. 23 Columbia, SC Oct. 31, 2012 – The University of South Carolina has announced its four non-conference games for the 2013 football season, finalizing its entire slate of games for the 2013 campaign, it was announced today. The Gamecocks will open the 2013 schedule against North Carolina on Saturday, August 31, at Williams-Brice Stadium. That contest will mark the Tar Heels first trip to Columbia since 1990. Jacksonville, NC – After several years in the planning, Onslow County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the opening of its new concession and restroom facilities in its flagship park site at Onslow Pines Park. The project began in the summer of 2009, as residents representing the Southwest Baseball and Softball League initiated fundraising efforts to replace the aging concession and restroom facility at the almost 35 year old park. “This was a case where some of the park’s most loyal users and supporters saw a need and offered their help to improve the facilities,” says Recreation Supervisor Rick Perry. WILMINGTON, N.C. – “The Buzz Peterson TV Show” makes its 2012-13 premier on Sunday, Nov. 11, the same day the Seahawks kick off their men’s basketball season against UNC Asheville at Trask Coliseum.   The 30-minute program featuring UNCW’s third-year coach runs from 11-11:30 a.m. on WWAY News Channel 3, Wilmington’s ABC affiliate. Mike Vaccaro will serve as host of the show once again this season.   There are 16 shows on tap for this season.
