MARSHALL 61, UNCW 58 HUNTINGTON, West Virginia Dec. 1, 2012 – UNCW redshirt freshman Craig Ponder did everything he could, exploding for a career-high 26 points before a large group of family and friends, but Marshall rallied down the stretch to edge the Seahawks, 61-58, in a men’s basketball game Saturday night at the Cam Henderson Center. The Herd advanced to 4-0 at home and hiked its record to 5-3 with the non-conference win. ELON, N.C. – Down by nine points with 13 minutes left to play in the second half, the Cougars completed the comeback and held on for a 57-55 victory over Elon in their first Southern Conference game Saturday at Alumni Gym. Junior Afreyea Tolbert led the Cougars (3-4, 1-0) with 15 points and 14 rebounds and made a key steal with six second left to help preserve the win. Box Score GAINESVILLE, Fla. – College of Charleston volleyball’s record-breaking season came to a bittersweet end in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament as No. 15 Florida took a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-16, 25-14) to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Cougars (27-8) hung tough with the Gators (27-4) in the first set before Florida’s size and physical advantage eventually took over. Chris Heston and Kyle Roller Take Home Post-Season Honors GREENVILLE, N.C. – Former East Carolina All-American Seth Maness has been named the 2012 St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year the organization announced Friday afternoon.   Maness, the Cardinals 11th-round selection in 2011, started the season at Palm Beach before quickly ascending to Springfield and was a key contributor to the Cardinals post-season championship run.   Despite his promotion on May 21, Maness still accumulated totals to rank 3rd in the Texas League in ERA (3.27), second in wins (11) and led the league with a 1.06 WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched).   His full-season totals were a 14-4 with a 2.97 ERA over 169.2 innings pitched with a 1.04 WHIP.
