Pirates Accept Invitation To The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

ECU To Face Louisiana-Lafayette At The Mercedes-Benz Superdome On Dec. 22 GREENVILLE, N.C. Dec. 1, 2012 – East Carolina has accepted an invitation to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Dec. 22. The assignment was officially finalized following Tulsa’s victory in the Conference USA Championship Game earlier Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon (ET) against Louisiana-Lafayette, who finished regular season play with an overall mark of 8-4 and a Sun Belt record of 6-2. The Pirates and Ragin’ Cajuns, who have met on 10 previous occasions, will battle for the first time since ECU posted a 20-10 victory on Sept. 22, 1990. Chris Heston and Kyle Roller Take Home Post-Season Honors GREENVILLE, N.C. – Former East Carolina All-American Seth Maness has been named the 2012 St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year the organization announced Friday afternoon.   Maness, the Cardinals 11th-round selection in 2011, started the season at Palm Beach before quickly ascending to Springfield and was a key contributor to the Cardinals post-season championship run.   Despite his promotion on May 21, Maness still accumulated totals to rank 3rd in the Texas League in ERA (3.27), second in wins (11) and led the league with a 1.06 WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched).   His full-season totals were a 14-4 with a 2.97 ERA over 169.2 innings pitched with a 1.04 WHIP. Freshman forward Michael Carrera registered his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Gamecocks. Junior guard Brenton Williams was injured in the contest. CofC Softball Selling ‘Restore the Shore’ Bracelets for Hurricane Sandy Relief

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team has begun selling ‘Restore the Shore’ support bracelets to raise money to donate to victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Cougars have teamed with the Red Cross in an effort spearheaded by Katie O’Brien, Alex Pizzoli and Valerie Cassell, all CofC softball players and New Jersey residents whose families were affected by Sandy’s devastation. The bracelets are available for $5 each and 100 percent of the proceeds are being donated to Sandy victims via the Red Cross.
