The Wilmington Hammerheads professional soccer team will host a special Skills Clinic at the Surf City Community Building on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10 am to 1 pm. This is one in a series they are conducting in the region and the only one in the Topsail/Hampstead area. Several pro players will be on hand for this event from the USL Pro Champion League finalists and the focus will be on intermediate and advanced skills training. Charlotte, NC – This Friday, race fans from around the country will visit Charlotte Motor Speedway for the unique opportunity to drive their personal vehicles on the high banks of the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway for the 20th annual Souvenir and Race Ticket Blow-Out, the biggest day-after-Thanksgiving shopping event in racing. Shoppers who spend at least $50 on merchandise or race tickets, or donate $25 to Speedway Children’s Charities during the event, will be allowed to drive their personal vehicle for three laps around the track. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The College of Charleston men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams wrapped up the fall season with the conclusion of the Wingate Fall Frenzy late Sunday night. The CofC men’s team was edged by Queens University of Charlotte and finished second out of the eight teams with 785.5 points. The women’s team finished strong to garner a third-place finish with 782.5 points behind Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern. Together, the men’s and women’s had the best combined score of 1568 in the entire meet. Columbia, SC -Fans may have noticed senior guard Ieasia Walker wearing a different number during Sunday’s win over Clemson. Formerly No. 3 on the roster, Ieasia will wear No. 2 for the rest of the season to honor teammate Shelbretta Ball, who was slated to wear that number before being declared medically ineligible prior to last season. The Gamecocks also continue to wear the patch added to their uniforms last season to honor Shelbretta. The team wanted Brett and everyone watching to know that she will always be an integral part of them and whatever they achieve this season.
New Ballpark Renderings Released Through Team’s Social Media Sites Fort Mill, SC — Earlier today, through the club’s social media sites, the Charlotte Knights released two new renderings of BB&T Ballpark. The first of the two is a photorealistic rendering, which prominently shows the Uptown Charlotte skyline in the background. The second attached rendering features a view from the BB&T Ballpark Suite Level. Construction crews continue to work at the site of the future home of the Knights. Last week, crew members poured the first 100 cubic yards of concrete. The entire construction process can be seen online through the BB&T Ballpark webcam. Nov. 19, 2012 – The East Carolina soccer team was one of 504 women’s programs to earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic calendar year. The Pirates posted a 3.34 grade point average and received the award for the ninth-straight year, 12th in the last 14.
