CofC Volleyball Selection Show Watch Party Set For Sunday Afternoon

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team and the Cougar Club invite CofC supporters and fans to come together as the Cougars learn their destination for the 2012 NCAA Volleyball tournament. The watch party will take place at Kickin’ Chicken on King St. at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. ESPNU’s Volleyball Selection Show will begin at 4 p.m.   College of Charleston earned an automatic bid to this year’s tournament by defeating Furman in a five-set thriller in the title match of the Southern Conference Tournament in Davidson, N.C. on Monday night.   Sophomore Sloane White was named Tournament MVP after she finished the three matches with 51 kills and a .453 attacking percentage. ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I. – South Carolina claimed the title in the Reef Division of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Saturday afternoon with a 55-46 win over DePaul. Aleighsa Welch was just one point shy of her third double-double in as many games at the event, and Ashley Bruner posted her second 12-rebound game of the tournament. The Gamecock defense was equally as effective, holding the Blue Demons to 29.7 percent shooting, including just four 3-pointers. WACO, Texas – Four players scored in double figures to lead College of Charleston to a 63-59 upset of No. 21-ranked Baylor on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.   The Cougars (3-2) claimed only their sixth all-time win over a top 25 opponent in program history and the second-ever on the road next to a win at No. 8 Georgia Tech on Jan. 16, 1993. OXFORD, Ohio –  The College of Charleston women’s basketball team forced 32 turnovers, but couldn’t get their offense going as they fell to Miami (Ohio) 55-42 Friday at Millett Hall. Freshman Shannon Hines led the Cougars with 11 points as she scored the first points of her collegiate career. Hines also contributed on defense as she was one of four Cougars with at least four steals in the game. The Cougars (2-2) had 19 steals for the game, their fourth most in school history.
