CofC Women’s Soccer Takes Down Samford; Advances in SoCon Tourney

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  – The College of Charleston women’s soccer team downed Samford, 2-1, to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars, as the seventh seed, struck first for the 12th time this season with a header by Haley Hutchens (Irmo, S.C.) and Michaela Herrmann (Centennial, Colo.) netted the game winner after second-seeded Samford had equalized late in the first half. The Cougars advance to the tournament semifinals, also hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala. Gamecock Football: Marcus Lattimore Update

COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 28, 2012) — University of South Carolina junior running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a significant impact to the front of his right knee during the Tennessee game on Saturday. The ensuing hyperextension of the knee resulted in injury to several ligaments. There were no fractures or additional injuries, according to team physician Dr. Jeffrey Guy. Lattimore’s surgically repaired left knee was uninjured during the play. Lattimore is resting comfortably and will continue to be evaluated over the course of the week. Marcus has already begun the process of prehabilitation prior to surgery and to his eventual return to football. CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s golf team will host the Palmetto Intercollegiate Oct. 28-29 at the Oak Point golf course on Kiawah Island, S.C. CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston came back from a tough defeat on Friday at the hands of Georgia Southern by defeating Davidson, 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18) on Saturday evening. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished in 10th place at the 2012 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday morning at Laurel Hill Plantation. The women were led by sophomore Hayley McMahon, who finished 27th in a time of 18:25.31 for the women’s 5K race. Next was sophomore Danielle Sams, who finished 44th in 18:45.14 and freshman Kornelia Kostka finished 48th in 18:57.81. WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Oklahoma State was declared champion of The Landfall Tradition women’s golf tournament early Sunday after Hurricane Sandy dumped heavy rain overnight on the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus course. Landfall Tradition Round 1 Results (PDF) The 17 teams and five individuals enjoyed good weather during Friday’s opening round before running into Sandy’s rains and high winds yesterday and completing 9-12 holes in difficult conditions.
