Cougars Win Five-Set Thriller Over Furman, Capture SoCon Title

DAVIDSON, N.C. – College of Charleston won an exciting five-set thriller over rival Furman to capture the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The championship is the seventh tournament title for CofC and the 12th-straight regular season or tournament championship dating back to 2001. Seven tournament championships is more than any other SoCon program. With the win, College of Charleston improves to 26-7 on the season while Furman fell to 24-10. The razor tight match feature 20 ties and seven lead changes as the championship point came down to a 15-13 margin in the fifth set. Limited Spots Available For Softball’s Thanksgiving Camp Camp Registration Information GREENVILLE, N.C. Nov. 19, 2012 – Registration remains open for the 2012 East Carolina Thanksgiving Softball Camp, head softball coach Beth Keylon-Randolph announced on Monday afternoon. The ECU softball staff will host the one-day camp on Sunday, Nov. 25, at ECU Softball Stadium. The camp is for all girls that are in eighth grade and above. The camp is split into two sessions. The first session of the one-day camp is the hitting and defensive portion and is scheduled to go from 9 a.m. to noon at a cost of $75. Junior guard Brenton Williams led the way for the Gamecocks with the best stat line of his career. Bobcats Injury Update: Tyrus Thomas

Charlotte, NC November 19, 2012 – The Charlotte Bobcats announced today that forward Tyrus Thomas is expected to miss approximately two months after an MRI revealed a second-degree strain of his left calf muscle and a tear of the plantaris muscle, a smaller muscle that assists the calf in plantar flexing the ankle.   No surgery will be needed for the injury, which Thomas suffered during Saturday night’s game against Memphis.   In eight games played this season, Thomas is averaging 6.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 17.8 minutes per game.   Bobcats Sports & Entertainment owns the Charlotte Bobcats and operates Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena.

Nov. 19, 2012 – With the generosity of its fans and community supporters, Darlington Raceway’s Toys for Tots Fundraiser & Toy Drive raised over $3,000 worth of toys and cash donations, guaranteeing many children in the Pee Dee area will have a gift to open on Christmas Day this year.   The Toys for Tots Fundraiser & Toy Drive at Darlington Raceway is the largest single-day collection event in the Pee Dee area and has raised more than $12,000 for the local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program since 2010.   “It’s great knowing that the success of this event makes a difference in children’s lives.
