Defender makes transition to East Coast for 2013 season Wilmington, NC March 8, 2013 – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced defender Jamel Wallace as the first, new addition to the Hammerheads squad for the upcoming 2013 USL PRO season. Wallace will make his debut with the Hammerheads after a season with San Diego Boca FC of the National Premier Soccer League.   Although this is Wallace’s inaugural season with the Hammerheads, it is not his first appearance in USL PRO. Charleston Battery defeats Coastal Carolina

Charleston Battery defeats Coastal Carolina in pre-season scrimmage Charleston, SC March 7, 2013 – The Charleston Battery defeated Coastal Carolina University by a score of two goals to one in a pre-season scrimmage Thursday evening at Blackbaud Stadium.  2012 USL PRO Rookie of the Year Jose Cuevas led the way scoring both Battery goals to take his pre-season tally to five. Cuevas opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a flicked header from forward Heviel Cordoves.  The ball squirmed past the Coastal goalkeeper and Cuevas tapped in from close range. New team camp to be offered in 2013 Charleston, SC March 5, 2013 – The Charleston Battery has set dates for its 2013 summer soccer camps. Once again the Battery will offer six weeks of camp at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island with the first week starting June 10, 2013. In addition to training at the stadium, campers also get to enjoy lunch daily in the Three Lions Club and all campers are invited back to a camp party at the Charleston Battery game on August 3rd. SURF CITY, NC March 6, 2013 – With over 30 teams expected in Surf City Youth Soccer, more volunteer coaches are needed according to Athletic Supervisor Steve Unger. “We need about a dozen more coaches for teams that have players from ages three to ten,” he says. “It really does not take a soccer superstar to coach a team – just a teen or an adult who can give two to three hours a week to have fun for a good cause.” All soccer coaches take an online training course and receive information on the game and league philosophy. Charleston Battery defeats Clemson as pre-season continues

Charleston, SC March 4, 2013 – The Charleston Battery defeated Clemson University 5-0 in a pre-season scrimmage played on Saturday afternoon at Clemson. After leading 1-0 at half-time the Battery scored four second half goals to take the victory. The win follows on from the Battery’s 3-0 win versus the College of Charleston in a game played last Thursday.   2012 USL PRO Rookie of the Year Jose Cuevas opened the scoring for the Battery in the first half with the assist credited to midfielder Ryan Richer. Charleston, SC Feb. 28, 2013 – The Battery looked bigger and faster at the start of this match against the young College of Charleston Cougars; and after the first half of play they were certainly proving to be just that. Early in the contest, Cougar keeper Alex Young sprinted off his line to cut off the angle and force Dane Kelly to miss an opportunity from close range.
