UNCW Women’s Tennis Team Collects ITA Academic Honors

WILMINGTON, NC July 15, 2014 – Following its most successful season ever, the UNCW women’s tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an ITA All-Academic Team, with seven players designated as ITA Scholar Athletes. Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year Angie Sekely (Mississauga, Ontario) heads up the group of Seahawks honored. Olga Blank (Winnipeg, Canada), Kelly Cameron (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), Hollie Champion (Charlotte, N.C.), Hamilton Lovett (Raleigh, N.C.), Alyssa Ritchie (Franklin, Ohio) and Alix Theodossiou (Asheville, N.C.) round out the award winners. ITA Honors Wilmington Seahawks Men’s Tennis Team For Academics

WILMINGTON, NC July 14, 2014 – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the governing body of collegiate tennis, has recognized the UNCW men’s team as an ITA All-Academic Team and four players as ITA Scholar Athletes. Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Tennis Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year Rafael Aita of Lima, Peru, headlined UNCW’s quartet. The men’s tennis team wrapped up a two-game road swing to Virginia by beating former CAA rival ODU, 6-1, on Saturday. NORFOLK, VA March 29, 2014 – No. 47 UNCW concluded a two-match weekend road swing to Virginia by beating former Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion, 6-1, in men’s tennis action Saturday at the Folkes Stevens Tennis Center. The Seahawks, who edged No. 37 VCU, 4-3, on Friday in Richmond, won their fifth match in a row to increase their record to 11-6 this season. The Monarchs are now 11-7. CHESTNUT HILL, MA March 30, 2014 – With a sweep of the singles matches, No. 17 Clemson upped its winning streak to nine matches and improved to 16-3 (8-0 ACC) on the season with a 6-1 win over No. 43 Boston College on Sunday afternoon. The 8-0 start to ACC play matches the school record for most wins to begin conference play. The Eagles dropped to 10-7 (2-5 ACC) with the loss. The Houston, Texas, product rolled past North Carolina Central’s Ekaterina Nekrasova, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 3 singles in the Seahawks’ 6-1 dismantling of the Eagles last week.
