COLUMBIA, SC August 13, 2014 – South Carolina outfielder Gene Cone and infielder Jordan Gore will play for the 2014 Petit Cup Championship in the Coastal Plain League as members of the Florence RedWolves vs. the Peninsula Pilots.  The two rising sophomores begin a three-game playoff set on Friday, Aug. 14 at Florence with game two on Saturday at Peninsula and an if necessary game slated for Sunday, Aug. 16. MOREHEAD CITY NC August 5, 2014 – The Marlins’ 2014 season wrapped up on Monday evening with a rainout in their scheduled game against the Wilmington Sharks. Morehead City finished up the season with a 19-31 record overall, but a 14-9 record in the second half, which was good for third place in the CPL East. Morehead City’s torrid second half was fueled by a stretch of games from June 30 to July 25 when they won 15 of 18 games and had two separate five-game winning streaks. This means the Wilson Tobs end the season at .500 with a 27-27 record and the three seed in the CPL Playoffs. The Tobs will have tomorrow off before playing host to the Edenton Steamers for Game One of their three game series. MOREHEAD CITY, NC August 4, 2014 – Tonight’s season finale against the Wilmington Sharks has been canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The game will not be rescheduled. Monday’s rainout is the fourth straight, and the 10th overall for the Marlins this season (11 counting the Team USA game that was canceled on June 28). FAYETTEVILLE, NC July 29, 2014 – The Wilmington Sharks will end the regular season without a win in Fayetteville after falling to the SwampDogs Monday night by a score of 10-7, despite knocking 12 hits. The Wilmington loss was the sixth loss in six tries at the Swamp, and an untimely sixth consecutive, as the Sharks need a late push in order to qualify for the Petit Cup Playoffs in August. MOREHEAD CITY, NC July 28, 2014 – The Marlins lost their second straight game Sunday—a 19-8 defeat at the hands of the Columbia Blowfish in a game that featured five home runs, five hit by pitches, a position player pitching, and relief pitchers batting. The Blowfish scored nine times in the eighth inning off relievers Scott Edge and Michael Barber, which made it a 17-5 game at the time. In that inning, Julian Santos left the yard with a grand slam to right field, his second home run of the day. Wilmington was held scoreless for just the third time all season – the last time being a month ago to the date against the Wilson Tobs.
