Matt Vogel and Wilmington Sharks Blow Wilson Tobs Away 8-1

WILMINGTON, NC – On the same day Sharknado 2: The Second One was set to be unleashed upon movie theatres around the country, the Wilmington Sharks created a tornado of their own at Buck Hardee field on Wednesday night, as they sent the Tobs seeking shelter early and often. The first inning was essentially a microcosm of the game as a whole. Matt Vogel struck out three Tobs in the top of the first, and Steven Linkous and Nate Moorhouse each drew walks to kickstart the Sharks offense in the bottom of the first inning. A double steal from the two most dangerous running threats in the Coastal Plain League put two runners in scoring position. Jake Kusz knocked one […]

Morehead City Marlins drop third straight after 7-1 loss to Wilson Tobs

MOREHEAD CITY, NC July 28, 2014 – The Marlins managed only one run against Wilson on Monday, as the surging Tobs handed Morehead City their third straight loss with a 7-1 victory at Fleming Stadium. Right-hander Brett Valentine, making his first start for the Marlins, allowed three runs in the first inning on four hits, and was hurt by an error from Chase Simmons—one of four Marlins’ errors on the night. “It’s not just the errors, there were [a bunch of] plays that weren’t made,” said head coach Sam Carel. “When you want to play winning baseball you cannot leave the amount of plays on the field that we have.” Those three runs proved to be more than enough to […]

Wilmington Sharks Stumble at the Swamp, Lose 10-7

FAYETTEVILLE, NC July 29, 2014 – The Wilmington Sharks will end the regular season without a win in Fayetteville after falling to the SwampDogs Monday night by a score of 10-7, despite knocking 12 hits. The Wilmington loss was the sixth loss in six tries at the Swamp, and an untimely sixth consecutive, as the Sharks need a late push in order to qualify for the Petit Cup Playoffs in August. The offense for the Sharks picked up in the top of the first inning with singles from Nate Moorhouse and Steven Linkous. Moorhouse would score on an errant throw by the SwampDogs catcher prompted by the double steal. Sharks starter Beau Dees was dealing early in the contest. Dees […]
